To wrap up "I Love VIPS week," we thought we'd share a "Where are they now?" story. Dejah, FHS Class of 2018, was part of the FHS College Mentoring Program (aka, the Zorski Project). She worked with her mentor, Meredith, to find the best college for her needs and budget. After graduating last May, she was hired by IBM, and lives in Washington, DC.

The Cross-Age Science Teaching, or CAST program, is one of VIPS’ longest running programs! We recently visited Teaticket Elementary School and the kids were having a blast. It’s proven to be an effective way for younger students to learn while older students teach! Learn more about the CAST program and show your support for these initiatives.

Calling all readers! This year, we created an opportunity for volunteers who enjoy reading. English Arts teachers in grades 7-12 welcome volunteers to read what their students are reading and join in classroom discussions. We recently had a volunteer from WHOI with a background in national security discuss George Orwell's, "1984." Interested in learning more? Send us an email and we can give you the book lists, then help you schedule a classroom visit.

At VIPS, we like to say mentoring changes two lives. Our mentors make a significant difference in students' self-confidence and self-esteem, but it goes both ways: for many volunteers, the students have a huge impact on the mentors as well.
