Falmouth VIPS celebrated four decades of volunteerism and community partnerships in Falmouth Public Schools at its annual Volunteer Appreciation event on June 8th at The Flying Bridge. During the event, VIPS Executive Director Tracey Crago highlighted the importance of community partnerships in sustaining and growing the VIPS programs, along with strong support from district staff and administration. State Representatives David Vieira and Dylan Fernandes presented VIPS with a Resolution commending the 40th anniversary of the organization. They also presented citations to two community partners recognized by VIPS this year: Companion Animal Program (CAP) and Ann Gallagher of Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands. |
At Thursday’s event, special recognition honors were presented to volunteers from each school whose efforts are considered outstanding by fellow volunteers, staff members, and students. This year’s winners include: Woody Reed, from Falmouth High School, who tutors numerous students for several hours each week; Thor Lewis from Lawrence School, another outstanding tutor who works with numerous students on a regular basis; Kellan O’Leary from Morse Pond, for her dedication to school and PTO events; Kari Fietek from East Falmouth Elementary, who shares her love of gardening with students and staff; Danielle Sabens from Mullen-Hall Elementary, who has led numerous PTO and school events, fundraisers, and activities in support of the students; Meghan Stimpson from North Falmouth Elementary, a dedicated mentor, school banking, and PTO volunteer; and Samantha Ainsworth from Teaticket Elementary, whose involvement with school and PTO events has boosted school spirit. Check out the posters describing each of these incredible volunteers, below. Recipients received engraved plates designed for VIPS by Corine Adams, ceramic artist and FHS ceramics teacher. Special "40" cookies were created as a favor by VIPS Volunteer Joyce Reardon.
