Each year, an award is presented to one volunteer from each school, the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year. The recipients of this award have been classroom volunteers, mentors, art/music/library/sports volunteers, parents, grandparents, and community members. There is no set formula or specific criteria for a person to be nominated. It isn’t always a person with many hours or someone who comes in every week. Important qualities for an ‘outstanding volunteer’ include: reliability, flexibility, creativity, positive attitude, role model, and someone who exemplifies your school community.
Please note that a volunteer cannot win the award more than once. If you are not sure if this person has won in the past, please check our list of recipients below ("Award Recipients" button).
All nominees for the annual Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award are reviewed by a committee made up of VIPS staff, board members, and school liaisons.
Stay tuned to find out who this year's "Outstanding Volunteer of the Year" recipients will be. These volunteers will be presented with one-of-a-kind plate made by Woods Hole potter Tessa Morgan of Flying Pig Pottery!
